- Grade i: This is a mild acne which presents with whiteheads and blackheads. No redness or spreading to other tissue. No pus.
- Grade ii: A large number of whiteheads are present. Skin surface is bumpy. No general inflammation, but papules and pustules can form.
- Grade iii: Presence of both whiteheads and blackheads. Papules and pustules also present. Severe form of acne that can lead to scarring.
- Grade iv: Papules and pustules merge. Severe acne as there is irritation, inflammation and eventual loss of tissue. Scarring.
